Published on: 21/10/14

Charity organisation Parkinson's UK has appointed a leading pharma industry expert in Dr Arthur Roach as its research director.

Roach will provide leadership to the charity’s extensive programme of research, and it says his appointment will help spearhead collaboration between Parkinson's medical research and the industry.

Roach has over 25 years' experience directing research in Parkinson's and other neurodegenerative conditions at universities, hospitals, and pharma and biotech companies. Previously he held positions at Chord Therapeutics and Merck Serono.

Steve Ford, chief executive at Parkinson's UK, says: "Arthur Roach's industry background will put fire under our portfolio, focussing our efforts on only the most promising research that has the potential to transform the lives of the 7.5 million people worldwide living with Parkinson's."

Roach adds: "Parkinson's UK is in a unique position to ignite collaboration between researchers, companies, doctors and people with Parkinson's across the globe, so they can work as a superpower to find a cure for Parkinson's."
