J&J lines up its Global Head for Actelion

Published on: 22/05/17

The deal is not yet complete but the last steps are assumed to be a formality – at least Johnson & Johnson’s appointment of a new Global Head for Actelion seems to suggest so. Jane Griffiths will step into the new role once the deal is closed. Griffiths currently serves as Company Group Chairman at Janssen EMEA, a subsidiary of J&J.

After 12 years of service to J&J, Griffiths is well-equipped for the challenge of ensuring the smooth transition of the Actelion business into the larger J&J group. Prior to working as Company Group Chairman, Griffiths performed the roles of Head of Market Access in Janssen EMEA and as International Vice President in the same area.

Griffiths will replace Otto Schwarz, who will retire but continue on in an advisory capacity for 12-months following the completion of takeover.

Jean-Paul Clozel, soon-to-be-departing CEO of Actelion, commented: "I would like to thank Otto for his very significant contributions to the success of Actelion in the almost 9 years since he joined the company. Under his leadership Tracleer was built into a global brand with almost 1.7 billion Swiss francs in peak sales. He also led and managed the highly successful launches of Opsumit, Uptravi and Veletri, thus replacing the leading drug in the category with a diversified, outcome-based portfolio, which has a strong long-term growth potential to achieve leading positions in shaping the treatment paradigms in PAH, an achievement which is a rare feat in our industry."

J&J’s deal for Actelion was agreed by shareholders and the former company expects to close the deal in the second quarter of this year.
