Fishawack Communications has appointed Gail Flockhart managing director following a restructure of its board of directors.

Gail has over two decades of experience in healthcare communications, including 10 years in marketing and new product development at Merck Sharp & Dohme and Allergan, and 11 years of managing agencies in the UK and US.

Gail joins Fishawack from Caudex Medical where she was chief executive and will report to Fishawack chief executive Oliver Dennis.

Gail and Oliver have worked closely in a previous company. “I always hoped that we would get a chance to work together again,” said Oliver. “Gail has a track record of achieving growth wherever she has worked. We are committed to securing our place as the leading independent medical communications specialist in the UK, and Gail has the energy and drive to get us there.”

Gail, who joins the team that led an management buyout in 2008, commented: “I am thrilled to be part of such an enthusiastic and professional team, where focus on achieving great programmes for our clients is the overarching goal.

“These are highly competitive times for independent medical communications businesses and Fishawack is one of a handful of agencies that has continued to thrive. Clients are looking to agencies to be at the top of their game in their understanding and application of ethical guidelines whilst driving innovation. At Fishawack, I found a rare combination of specialist medical communications expertise in a creative agency setting without the middle management cost. It is very refreshing.”

Meanwhile, commercial director Tim Mustill is to lead a strategic new business development drive.

“I am delighted to have Gail on board and look forward to working closely together to drive Fishawack forward. It is great to have someone with her strategic insight at the helm as I refocus on business development,” he said.
