Meeting challenges for innovation in healthcare: medicines, technology and service improvement

Guest of Honour: Miles Ayling, Director of Innovation, NHS England

This seminar is supported by ACSMA

This seminar will provide a timely opportunity to consider the next steps for innovation in medicines, technology and services for healthcare, and the impact on outcomes, efficiency and patient experience.

Delegates will discuss the challenges faced by NHS England, Clinical Commissioning Groups and Academic Health and Science Networks as they promote research and innovation in healthcare, and will consider the ways in which they can work best with providers to increasingly improve patient care, decrease mortality rates and contribute to a reduction in NHS expenditure.

With the Medical Innovation Bill - which aims to encourage responsible scientific experimentation in medicine - currently in Parliament, and with value-based pricing due to be introduced in January 2014, further sessions will focus on how obstacles to developing new healthcare technologies and medicines can be overcome, the ways in which regulatory bodies can facilitate and encourage the advancement of innovation, and how dissemination and adoption of best practice can be encouraged throughout the health service.

We are delighted that Miles Ayling, Director of Innovation, NHS England; Peter Ellingworth, Chief Executive, ABHI; Mirella Marlow, Programme Director, Devices and Diagnostics, NICE and Stephen Whitehead, Chief Executive, ABPI have agreed to deliver keynote addresses at this seminar.

Sir Cyril Chantler, Chairman, UCL Partners; Colin Callow, Head of Change and Innovation, Central Manchester Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust; Sam Hudson, Improvement Consultant and Director, Überology, and former Head of Experience and Engagement, NHS Institute of Innovation and Improvement; Eve Knight, Co-founder and Chief Executive, AntiCoagulation Europe; Dr Jo Roberts, Clinical Lead for Innovation, Engagement and Communication, South Devon and Torbay Clinical Commissioning Group; Angela Single, Clinical Director, Telehealth and Telecare, BT Health and Chair, 3 Million Lives Working Group and Dr Maire Smith, Innovation Consultant and Director, Training for Innovation have also agreed to speak.
