Shire creates 150 jobs with Dublin HQ relocation

Rare disease specialist Shire has opened the doors of its new headquarters in Dublin, Ireland. The pharma company has leased 76,000sqft of space at Miesian Plaza in Baggot Street, relocating from its previous home in Citywest.

Ireland presents a favourable option to many industry firms, and Shire is one of many to take advantage by relocating operations to the country. The new facility houses one of the company’s global corporate services teams, which provide support to Shire’s procurement and finance operations worldwide.

150 new staff are to be recruited, with a goal of 300 workers being stationed at the new facility by the end of June 2017. The company last year pledged to invest $400 million in the Irish capital, which it announced would lead to 400 new jobs. The plan was awarded formal planning permission in December last year.

“It’s an exciting time for us at Shire in Ireland,” remarked Alan Walshe, General Manager for Ireland. “The decision to open our corporate HQ at the Miesian Plaza and last year’s announcement of our investment in a state-of-the-art biologics facility at Piercetown in Co Meath demonstrates that Ireland remains an important part of Shire’s global footprint and future strategy.”
