Department of Health appoints new comms director

The Department of Health has appointed Sam Lister, currently health editor at The Times, as its new director of communications.
He will fill the gap left by Sian Jarvis, who stepped down as director-general of communications last month after 12 years at the department.
The DH expects Sam to start towards the end of the year and said he will bring a wealth of experience on health policy and extensive experience as a senior manager.
Once in post he will face a range of challenges, with communications issues around the Health and Social Care Bill, value-based pricing and the future role of NICE all looming large.
