Chiesi Farmaceutici hires new CEO after $1.48bn Amryst acquisition

Chiesi Farmaceutici, a family-owned Italian pharmaceutical company, has appointed Giuseppe Accogli as group CEO. This comes after 2020’s $1.48bn acquisition of rare disease specialist Amryt.
Accogli has 25 years in the pharma industry, most recently at Baxter in their renal sector. Before then, he was at Italian medtechs Medtronic and Tyco Healthcare. Accogli’s background spans sales, marketing, product innovation, R&D and M&A, where he focused on the EMEA and US markets.

Amryt, another Italian company, currently has 3 FDA-approved drugs: Juxtapid for homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia; Myalept for lipodystrophy; and Mycapssa for acromegaly. It also has Filsuvez, which was approved in the EU in 2022.
