Big Pharma company Pfizer has publicly denied allegations that it is deliberately mutating the COVID-19 virus in order to develop vaccines for strains that have not naturally mutated Pfizer has been accused of mutating the virus for its own profit.

The allegations follow leaked footage from far-right activist group, Project Veritas, from a hidden camera. The video, released on the 25 January, shows an individual, who Project Vertias allege is Pfizer’s director of research and development, stating that Pfizer was “exploring” deliberately mutating the virus to “preemptively develop new vaccines”, amongst other claims.

The man appears to be on a date with a Project Veritas journalist who is wearing a hidden camera. On the date he was asked if this was similar to gain-of-function research, to which he said: “It is definitely not gain-of-function. Directed evolution is a little different. You’re not supposed to do gain-of-function research with viruses.”

A second video was released in which the man is confronted with the hidden camera footage, where he claimed he was “trying to impress a person on a date by lying.”

Pfizer has responded to the allegations, stating: “Allegations have recently been made related to gain-of-function and directed evolution research at Pfizer and the company would like to set the record straight. […] In the ongoing development of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, Pfizer has not conducted gain-of-function or directed evolution research. Working with collaborators, we have conducted research where the original SARS-CoV-2 virus has been used to express the spike protein from new variants of concern.”
