Communications consultancy College Hill has expanded its international reach by opening an office in San Francisco.

The group specialises in providing PR and communications advice to biotech companies, and the opening of a new office in San Francisco – the epicentre of the US biotech industry – makes sense for the company.

The new office will have a strong focus on the life sciences sector, providing a US service both for College Hill's international life sciences clients as well as expanding its US client base.

College Hill has appointed experienced healthcare PR professional Erik Clausen as partner and general manager of the new office. Erik spent the past decade as a prominent member of the biotech, pharmaceutical, medical device & diagnostics practice groups at Schwartz Communications in Boston and San Francisco. Most recently he led the agency's West Coast healthcare group in its San Francisco office.

College Hill's life sciences team has expertise in communications support in antibodies, immunotherapeutics, vaccines, stem cell research, medical devices, personalised medicines, and diagnostics, among other areas.

The team includes a number of consultants with relevant PhD level experience of the industry, which combined with senior PR practitioners and writers, provides a formidable resource to companies in the sector.

Erik Clausen said: "We are enthusiastic about bringing College Hill's unique blend of results-oriented communications services and strong sector focus to our growing number of clients in the US.

"Our truly global team of experts employs strategic communications as a business tool to help our clients worldwide to achieve their corporate and marketing objectives.

"We know how to overcome the challenges of communicating often complex messages to diverse audiences to drive value creation and business success for life science companies."

Sue Charles, managing partner, life sciences at College Hill said: "Within the life sciences sector we have established a strong reputation globally and the opening of an office in the US will enable us to enhance further our services to existing clients as well as to increase our US client base."

College Hill already provides communications counsel to a number of US life science companies including Abraxis BioScience, Cyclacel, Illumina and NextGen Sciences as well as to global companies such as GE Healthcare.

Chairman of College Hill Alex Sandberg and group chief executive, Richard Nichols commented: "We continue to strengthen our sector teams and extend our geographic service to clients. "California is home to a large number of exciting, dynamic life sciences companies and we are lucky to have Erik lead our offer to them."

College Hill also has an office in New York, through its Stockheim Media subsidiary.
